Visual social platforms

Snapchat has been talking for months about establishing its first income stream in news and advertisements, and Yahoo is reportedly close to investing in the company. Keith shared an article that looks at how the Yahoo investment would affect advertisers.

Today, the main things to note are when and what you’d want to post if you were an organization or company using one of the visually oriented social platforms we’re discussing. This is also the day we started our social media comparison chart, covering YouTube, Instagram, Vine, Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter.

Upcoming class sessions: Our class will meet in Hart Auditorium on Friday. The department will have sign-in sheets available, so that’s how I’ll check attendance. We have a virtual guest speaker, the online editor of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, scheduled for Monday. The midterm exam is one week from today. Some things to consider about the test:

  • You can expect a mix of multiple choice and short answer questions.
  • The test can cover anything from readings, lecture, or class discussion (including how-to presentations and guest speakers). You should focus your study on the take-away points I’ve listed in each admin post. Those posts provide an excellent outline of our progress this semester.
  • I am available during office hours (3-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday) to answer questions as you prepare for the test over the next week.
  • All you need to bring for the test is a pen or pencil. No Scantron required.
